Thermador is the brand we are asked about most often in Orange County, and the calls cover the whole line rather than one appliance. Ranges and rangetops, wall ovens, induction and gas cooktops, dishwashers and the column refrigeration all come through. What Thermador builds
Thermador builds high-output cooking equipment and integrated kitchen appliances under BSH. The Star burner, with its star-shaped port pattern, is the brand's signature, paired with an ExtraLow setting that cycles the flame down for long simmers. The Freedom Induction Cooktop replaces fixed zones with a single full-surface coil array driven by several generator boards. Sapphire dishwashers and Masterpiece wall ovens round out the line, along with Freedom column refrigeration.
What we are called about most
- Star burner clicks but will not light
- Usually one or two positions rather than all of them. Most often the spark electrode is fouled or cracked, or the burner cap is sitting slightly off its seat after a clean. When every position clicks at once, the spark module is the more likely cause.
- Freedom induction cooktop drops a zone
- The full-surface top runs on several generator boards under the glass, with cooling fans beneath. Blocked ventilation or a tired fan tends to show first as a zone cutting out under load, then as an error code and a thermal shutdown.
- Wall oven runs under the set point
- Masterpiece ovens drift when the temperature sensor ages or a relay on the control board stops closing cleanly. We measure sensor resistance cold before condemning a board, because the sensor is the more common of the two failures.
- Sapphire dishwasher will not drain
- Thermador dishwashers sit on the Bosch platform, so they share its drain faults and its E-code set. Standing water in the sump is usually a blocked drain pump impeller, a clogged sump filter, or a check valve that is no longer seating.
- Oven door out of alignment
- Heavy Thermador oven doors load their hinges over time. Once a hinge spring weakens the door stops pulling flat against the seal, and the cavity then runs cool, preheats slowly and vents heat past the top of the frame.
- Freedom column running warm
- On column refrigeration the usual causes are a failed evaporator fan motor or a defrost fault leaving ice across the coil. Both present identically from the outside: the compressor runs on and the cabinet still sits above its set point.
