Why a microwave runs but never heats

When a microwave is genuinely not worth repairing

Some of these repairs are not sensible and we will say so on the visit rather than fitting the part. A magnetron or a main control board in an inexpensive over-the-range unit usually costs more in parts and labour than a replacement of the same class. Cavity coating that has burned through to metal ends the unit outright. Built-in and drawer models are the opposite case: the opening and trim kit are matched to that model, so replacing one often means cabinet work, and a repair that would be marginal in a countertop unit is clearly worth doing. Age and whether the door has been dropped matter more than the badge.
